Decades of experience led to revolutionary innovation in the cleaning and polishing of industrial concrete floors

Decades of experience support Concria’s innovative TrowelPolish method in the challenges posed by concrete floors – from the perspective of both cleaning firms and grinding professionals.

We have struggled with the micro-roughness of concrete floors first as professionals in the cleaning field and have seen that neither washing or even strong chemicals overcome the challenges of concrete floor-based dust accumulation and cleaning upkeep. We have also sought a solution to the same problem in our role as grinding professionals, and came to the conclusion that eliminating micro-roughness through traditional grinding methods frequently gets too expensive, especially at large sites.

Concria’s TrowelPolish method first originated as a solution in our own work to the challenges we encountered. We soon noticed, however, that the upkeep and maintenance of concrete floors represent a global problem effectively addressed by the easy and economical solution our products provide.

Innovations for protective agent-based grinding methods

The roots of Concria’s story extend back to the 1970s, when Viljo Ahonen from Finland established a company offering cleaning services. At the time, the first challenges posed by concrete floors became familiar. Mr Ahonen sought solutions to the problem from his own innovations.
“At the outset of the 1980s, there were no other methods to protect stone floors other than with wax. Using common sense, it was hard to understand why a hard stone surface was covered with a soft plastic coating which afterwards was removed – sometimes several times a year,” Viljo Ahonen explains by way of background.

The continuous waxing sessions required drove Mr Ahonen to develop Finland’s first protective agent for stone surfaces. Demand exploded for the invention, and at the end of the 1980s Mr Ahonen began to carry out a larger number of stone surface protection projects. He began to notice that what was behind the waxing of stone floors was the fact that no equipment good enough to effectively grind stone floors was available. Worn floors were not refurbished. Rather, they were simply covered with wax. The observation led Mr Ahonen to develop grinding methods for supermarkets and other public premises.

To market leadership in the grinding field

In 1992, the cleaning operations switched to a new enterprise in the grinding field, Dyny Oy. During the last 20 years, Dyny has rehabilitated, ground and protectively treated concrete floors, gathering valuable experience from the special characteristics of such floors. Dyny has grown to become Finland’s largest operator in the field, whose projects represent some of the largest in the country. Mikko and Mika Ahonen, who functions as Concria CEO's, are following in the footsteps of their father as the current owners of Dyny.

Revolution innovation

Our latest innovation is patented ConcriaTM TrowelPolish system which transforms any ride-on power trowel into a grinding, polishing and cleaning machine. Concria Trowel Polish system creates a smooth, glossy, dense and easy to maintain surface in record time.Concrete grinding and polishing systems have never been as fast and easy before the new Concria Trowel Polish system. Trowel Polish system work perfectly also for dry-shake floors.
